![]() ![]() Wrath now looks more like a HD remake of Tenchu 1 than it’s own entity to me. Sadly, this ended up lowering my opinion of Wrath of Heaven in due to how unoriginal it now felt. Likewise, the narrative becomes unreal with supernatural and occult elements becoming more prominent than they were in Tenchu 1.īefore writing each of these pieces, I hadn’t actually played Tenchu 1 and set up an emulator in order to do so. There’s a new sense of speed to the gameplay and the game as a whole takes a step into old school James Bond-like territory discarding the realism of the previous game in favour of slick, smooth and stylish gameplay. It totally revamped the controls, making movement more fluid and responsive than ever, with combat being equally fast-paced and cathartic, burgeoning on becoming a hack n’ slash. The most stylised of the original three, Wrath of Heaven was probably the moment were Tenchu jumped the shark, never being that good again in the later games.
